Child Dedication Covenant

Covenant Promises for Parents and the Church

  1. We recognize these children are gifts from the Lord and we give heartfelt thanks for God's blessing.
  2. With God's fatherly help, we will strive to bring up our child in the discipline and instruction of the Lord, seeking with patience and love to shape them by God’s Word, the character of Christ, and the joy of the Lord.
  3. We commit, by God’s provision, to care for the physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual needs of this child, looking to our heavenly Father for wisdom, love and strength to serve them and not use them.
  4. We will make it our regular prayer that, by God's grace, our child will come to trust in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of their sins and for the fulfillment of all his promises, including eternal life; and that in faith they would follow Jesus as Lord and walk in obedience to his Word.
  5. We dedicate these children to the Lord who has entrusted them to us, surrendering all worldly claims upon their lives in the hope that they will belong wholly to Jesus Christ.

Church family, you have heard the commitments these parents have made before the Lord. Do you now commit, by God’s grace, to pray for these children, to encourage these parents, and to walk alongside them as fellow disciples of Jesus, so that together we may see the next generation come to know and follow Jesus?

If so, church family, please say, “We do.”

Words of Dedication

Children, together with your parents who love you dearly and this body of believers who care about the outcome of your faith, we dedicate you to God, surrendering together with them all worldly claim upon your life in the hope that you will belong wholly to Jesus Christ, forever.

Closing Prayer

Lord God, we lift these precious children before You. Place your hand of blessing upon them, surrounding them with your protection and peace. Shape theirs hearts to know and love you. In Your perfect time, draw them into the saving embrace of Christ, that they may walk all their days in the joy of your grace. Amen.
